在我小時候，村裡的人如果生病或者遇到什麼壞事，就會請巫師來家裡做法，每當聽說誰家請了巫師，我便會好奇地過去偷看。通常會有一名位階比較高的大巫師負責做法，幾個位階比較低的小巫師則會圍繞在大巫師身邊，協助他完成儀式。他們手裡都拿著棕櫚葉，像是歌舞般地揮著，聽大人說，棕櫚葉有驅邪的效果。

在所有種過的作物當中，印象較為深刻的是「花生」。由於當時是種植在斜坡上，種植難度跟平地比起來難上許多，只能拿著小小的鋤頭，一個洞一個洞慢慢挖，再把乾的花生種子一個個埋起來，約四到五個月就能收成。現在回想起來仍相當累人。
