我和先生結婚後在部落開了一間雜貨店，為了養家，除了顧雜貨店的生意外，我們也種植紅甘蔗。當時，白甘蔗的糖分含量高，是製造糖的重要原物料，所有的白甘蔗都會被糖廠統一收購，並不能私下隨意種植及販賣；而紅甘蔗的含糖量比起白甘蔗低，糖廠並不收購，開放民間可以自行種植與買賣。
